If he knows you will do something then you have no freewill. That any being knows and can not be wrong about what you will have for dinner every night for the rest of your life then you have no choice. You might think you do, but if it's already known then you can't choose anything else. Therefore, if god knows all, you have no free will, because he knows everything that you will ever do.

The greatest gift which God in his bounty bestowed in creating humans was the freedom of the will.
The problem is that we messed things up. People turned away from God and we have all misused this gift of freewill. We choose alternatives to God. The Bible declares, "We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way" (Isaiah 53:6). We are not only free to turn away from God, we are free to stay away. That is why hell has been called the greatest monument to human freedom and dignity

Don't we all sin in one way or another whether it is by what we say, how we feel, or what we think. We are exposed every day toward the wrongness of sin and the rightness of what is good. That is where are consciences can be trained to recognize them both for what they are. God gave us a set of Christian laws in the bible to follow that we can learn to do good. If we have the right motive he promises to help us to make good choices even though we are imperfect.

I'm an atheist, so I don't think he exists. But, maybe it's because he doesn't have that power. He can guide us into making the right choices, but he can't actually control us. Even if he could control us, maybe he wants to see us do good because we want to, not because we are forced to. For example, if you are put on community service after commiting a crime, does that make you a good person? I think not. To exmplore this further, I'd suggest reading A Clockwork Orange, or watch the movie. Think whether it is better to let him be evil and be judged for it, or force him to be good.

"Why did God give us freewill?"
Does god exsist, is it a "fact" or a "belief"
We don't "know" if god gave us freewill or not.
If you "believe" that HE did, then you must "believe" that everything will turn out for the better and that God All Mighty knows what HE's doing.
NO HARD FEELINGS (I'm simply expressing my opinion)
Stay open minded, you'll go far.

This is His game. You have been given free will. Do whatever you can do, the result is not in your hands. Result is in His hands. This may be a mock show for you (you don't have vision beyond your senses) but it is His pastime which you HAVE to play.

He loves us so He gave us free will. He wants us to choose to love him back. He knows we'll make terrible mistakes in the process. it doesn't amuse Him. He sent Jesus so we could be forgiven for all the horrible things He knew we would ever do.

i think we were given free will so he could see for himself what would happen. i think that we represent a control in an experiment. i also think there are other worlds in which he manipulated the people in different ways also to see what would happen. i think our universe is like a huge ant house and he exists on a completly different plane and just looks in from time to time.
