I just bought an 07 Honda 919 and after about 5 miles of driving (it's brand new), I heard some squeal coming from the front end. The back end doesn't make (as much?) noise, but it sounds like a rock in the brakes. I don't see any grooves on the rotors, because I decided to continue riding (bike has 130 miles on it now) and see if i could get rid of the rock through repeated braking. Whatever the deal is, it's a squeal that appears just as I pull on the front brake....after a moment on the brake, the noise stops, but there's also a little noise as I ride, which makes me think maybe the calipers are just too close to the rotors? I REALLY hate the shop that I bought the bike from, but they're slated to do a 600 mile first tune on it in a week and I was thinking of getting it looked at then. Any ideas? Am I being a dumbass? (i figured if i hosed the rotors or pads, i could play dumb and get them to install new ones free :)
Thanks!
Oh, no flames about Hondas. Don't wanna hear it.

Get rid of a rock through braking?
They'll let anyone ride a Honda nowadays!

Your problem sounds like slightly loose pads. The pad is moving on the piston as the pressure is being applied, causing a squeal. As the pressure increases, the pad stopps moving and the squeal stops.

disc brakes make some inherent noise just because the rotor surface is always in contact with the pad surface. it your caliper is too close, the noise would go away after about 30 miles, and you would not hear it again... until you replaced the calipers and installed those too close. but very few bikes have the mounting bracket in such a position that the caliper could be mounted too close. yours is not one of them.

If it is driving you crazy- then have the shop look at it. but most disc brakes-even the ones on your cage- make some noise all the time.

It's a common noise caused by vibration. Honda addressed it by suppling a foil pad and some lube that goes between the pad and piston. Just tell your dealer, or the dealer you choose to go to (you do not have to use the dealer where it was purchased) and it should be repaired, or fixed under warranty.

Like a car--brake dust is actually the cause of squealing--hosing a hot brake caliper can warp it and ruin it--so don't try that again. The shop should fix it or explain it--try another dealer if you don't like the one you went to--any dealer fixes them in their shop--what if you moved away??

something could be in the vents of the rotors also something could be in your brake caliper
