I guess I was just wonderin if anybody has any good "guerilla tactics" that work with regards to learning material effectively while not spending a lot of time doin it. I understand that there's no substitute for hard work, but i'm sure there are some good strategies to hone in that hard work to make your time more useful

Assuming you always pay attention to class, but still cannot grab the idea, you can always ask your teachers. In addition, you can ask your friends to teach / guide you on how to answer (but not what the answer is) :)

Kind regard,
Ron

One strategy to consider is to record the important ideas from the text you are studying in a learning log to capture your thoughts during reading. Cover the important ideas in a brief and telegraphic summary, but also give your opinions or ask questions, e.g., about anything unclear, or about evidence that supports or contradicts the author, or wondering about a question left unanswered. Incomplete sentences and abbreviations are fine. For best results, don’t write anything until you have finished reading each section, when you can identify the important information.

Now, you're probably saying, that sounds like it will take MORE time, but that's only in the short run. When you need to study for a test, you reread your learning log, and the ideas all come back to you. You don't have to read the book again.

Well... someone who actually wants to do homework instead of use Answers to have it done for them. Bravo to you.

When I was in school my dad told me to approach homework as the number one priority. This was long before Tivo was around too. What it means is that dont' approach it as a task that just has to be endured until it's done; it is a task that has to be done, that you want to do and do right and everything else just has to wait.

Organize your time. If you have a week to read a book with 28 chapters, read at least 4 chapters every night. You then have three days to do the book report; rough draft first night, clean up and citations next night, final work third night.

Organizing your time and tasks is really the only trick. The rest is just hard work.

definitely just pay really close attention during class, and if you have any questions at all, just ask the teacher. That way, you understand the subject, and you won't have to spend forever figuring it out by yourself at home.
