Need more info--How often are these discussions, or is it in any discussion with anyone? If you are questioning the "issue", then you may be picking up clues on the other person's motive behind the discussion. Domination? Or is it male-to-female? This would be entirely different issues. Boss-to-employee; or vice versa? The status of the two people is important; just as is the gender. Is it a relative? An immediate family member? A student to teacher?--Basically, let the words flow, but pay attention to the tone, eye movements and body language. Your FEELINGS will pick up the "issue" quicker than your mind. Interesting Q! I'd be interested in hearing what specifically qued you onto this.

Keep talking in the here and now, but, search for the issue in the then and there. No bringing up old fights or issues.
