Mac is good if you are for a major dealing with art or anything dealing with graphics. PC is good if you are doing more writing, files, and regular stuff.
But you, Macs are way cooler.

This is essentially an exaggeration but so are the ads from Apple:
Mac if you like to use four applications like Excel and Word. PC if you intend to use your computer with the thousands of software applications that have been designed for Windows. Despite all the nonsense, this is the primary difference between the two types of computers. The internal hardware is exactly the same as PCs - Apple just puts a fancier box on their computer and asks for more money. PCs run almost every single graphic design, music sequencing, etc. program that Macs do... There is a lot of mythology surrounding the difference between these two types of Operating Systems. If you are inclined to spend more money for a fancier box then you can always put Boot Camp or Parallels on it so you can run all Windows applications.

At the Apple website, their education store, you can buy a MacBook for $999 with iLife (iTunes, iChat, iDvd, iMovie, Safari, Garage Band, iCal etc.) As of today you also get a free iPod Nano, that may change when the new iPods come out in a week. With iWorks you get a word processor that is hundreds less than Office and reads and writes in Word, Excel and Power Point formats. The MacBook is wifi ready out of the box and has a built in webcam, cd player/burner & dvd player. What you don't get is the ability to catch 115,000 Windows viruses, malware, and adware. If you are going to play games on your computer, get a Dell. If you are going to college to get an education, get a Mac.
