You have to allow her to make mistakes and have the consequences, just like a child. You must feel very frustrated, as so would I. Do you feel that you have to step in to help her, even live with you if she gets tossed out? You need to be firm and tell her that if she looses the apartment because of these people, she will not be staying with you. Tough Love.

Honey, you can vent all you
want. that's why we are here.
I live in subsidized senior
housing--Not county, but
Federal. The rules are very
trict and we must sign that
")If they are relatives visiting,
they can stay 2 weeks only.
2)If they are "friends" they
must be approved by the Mgmt, who will give their
approval (or not). No pets
can stay.
3) If they are freeloaders, they
are given a couple days then
asked to leave. They will be
evicted forcefully by Sheriff
if they do not comply.
This clause will get your mom
evicted also--She is not abiding by the rules she signed and mgmt has full
authority to remove all of her
belongings and put them in
storage....then to bodily remove her.
#3 is abused quite a bit because there are so many
"friends" and homeless people
that just seem to want to stay
a "couple" days.
I have a dear younger friend
whose dad lives on acreage
and a home. the "live-in"
girlfriend became a constant
boozer--moved in all her
relatives--moved in trailers
for friends...and dad can't get
them out.
It is past Sept 1, did they
get out? How much did they
tear up the apt? Don't get
mad at mom, just have a
looooong talk with her.

Does she want them out? If she does, then go to the local police and ask for help. She can file an order that gives them notice of immediate eviction if they were never considered tenants. Police understand seniors sometimes get taken advantage of.

You can change the locks on her doors so they can't get back in. They can be allowed in when the police accompany them.

Rule about subsidized housing are different - they are not tenants unless they qualify as tenants and were put on the lease. This is not a like ordinary rental housing.

Have someone go with you and tell these people they have to leave immediately or your mother will be evicted, obviously they could care less. I looked up Hud regulations, she can not have them there for more than 3DAYS without written permission by manager or owner of the building. Never a month. Stay right there a day or two if need be and help them pack, or moms coming to live with you.

If you are not her Power of Attorney, I don't know.
If she still has her own income, and is still responsible and pays her own bills, you are probably between a rock and a hard place.
The only thing I would know to do in your situation, would be to go and talk to the Manager yourself and tell her your concerns.
I know that you are concerned about your Mom. Maybe she is lonely and enjoys having them there. If you feel that these people are going to take advantage, then all the more reason to find out as much about them as you can.
Good Luck.

sounds like she is easy for others to take advantage of and there is not a lot you can do about that maybe rent a uhaul and mini storage unit of course that is moer of your money down the drain you can't let her go to the homeless shelter and if you toss out the freeloaders they will just come back when you leave maybe quit answering your phone and let mom work it out herself

Juniejuly, you know what you'll do if your mom gets thrown out - you'll take her in. What else can you do?

It's the same thing we do for any loved one. We rant and rave about their dumb mistakes and bad behavior but when push comes to shove we extend a helping hand. That's what family is all about. When the chips are down, that's who you count on to save your butt. We don't have to like it and we don't like it but that's what we do. That's what you will do, too.

Good luck.

Glad you could let off a little steam. I hope it won't happen to her since the manager is aware of their presence there. It will turn out okay.

If you mother is elderly and has medical problems, speak to her doctor and get a Visiting Nurse Agency in to eval her.

They can arrange for a Medical social worker to help find community resources specific to your area.
Good luck!
