Mitt Romney. Here are just a few of my many reasons for choosing him, posted in answer to another question:
Yes, I do check out the candidates. Not just the one I plan to support, either. Here are some things I have learned just from following this election season:
-Not to support a candidate who is in favor of the Fair Tax. Poorer people would pay a much higher percentage of their income than rich people would, especially considering that rich people have the enhanced ability to buy outside the United States. Not only would that mean they can pay that much less than the rest of the country, but it would mean the middle class would be almost completely responsible for supporting the U.S. economy. And what would happen if it turned out that the national sales tax was not high enough to support the economy? Then the tax would be raised, screwing the middle class all over again.
-Immediate withdrawal from Iraq is not a viable option. It would be ideal, of course, but it would also leave the region vulnerable to takeover by another Saddamesque dictator. Al Qaeda may have been reduced, but it is not gone, and it would see a weak, unprotected Iraq as ripe for the plucking. Saying that we should just bring the troops home sounds great, but it is not practical nor is it in the best interests of those who live in the Middle East. If we think that isn't our problem, then we need to think back to how we felt about the status of the region before September of 2001. What happens there is very much our problem.
-Foreign policy is far too serious a matter to be speaking in detail about it during a national campaign. Anyone who gives an outline of their plans and intentions before they've sat down in numerous meetings with numerous advisers does not understand what they're doing. To state that you will threaten to bomb holy sites as a means of deterring terrorist activities; that you will meet with foreign leaders without preconditions; that any specific option will be off the table for any specific situation; or any of the non-sensical statements made by candidates on both sides of the aisle will betray your lack of experience and lose for you the confidence of people who realize that foreign policy is far too serious a matter to fake it until you make it.
-The economy is the key. Americans will forgive almost anything a president does to them as long as they can live their lives in relative comfort. Disaster relief, welfare, wars, drugs, crime, health care, all of these problems can be handled if the country is financially stable. This means we need a president who understands the economy and has demonstrated that.
-Education is the "silver bullet". The more you know, the better off you will be. We need an educated president. More importantly, we need a president who will make education a priority. All of the problems I listed in the previous bullet point and more can be ended before they begin if education is the paramount consideration.
Do I have a candidate in mind who fits these qualifications? Yes. His name is Mitt Romney. Take a thorough look at his qualifications, his record, his statements, and his personal history, and you'll see this is the case.

I hope Ron Paul is elected President in '08 because he is against the North American Union, is Pro Life, Supports our US Constitution including our 2nd Amendment Right to Bear Arms. He is opposed to giving away our government to illegals and other countries.
Ron Paul is The Hope for America!
Ron Paul is the only one who voted "no" to going to war in Iraq. Now that we know there were no WMD, we can look back to Ron Paul who was the only one wise enough to save thousands of our soldier's lives. We should have listened.

Ron Paul. His basic premise is that government should adhere to the Constitution -- what our country was founded on. Follow the Constitution, eliminate what has been established that goes against it, and reduce the interference of government into people's everyday lives. Please visit his site and decide for yourself. It is our civic obligation to be informed on the issues that affect us as a country. Whoever you vote for, please do your own research . The media omits quite a lot . www.ronpaul2008.com
