Yes. What really bothers me is when people use it in an argument, in a condescending way.
"You may want to rethink that, sweety," etc.
Makes me mad.
I think it's alright if it's
A) Your relative/significant other
B) A sweet old lady.
Hehe.
Thats my opinion.

For me, it would depend on the context and who was saying it. If it is a term of endearment from someone I know or even a stranger being kind,..and I often instinctively feel offended or hostile about it, I would look into my own issues as to why.

Being a 6ft 1, bald, goatee chinned male I would find some of those a bit off putting, but not offensive.

The ladies who live around me here in the projects call me lots of sweet names when they smell me making fresh bread. There's a lot of yeasty smells around the basement apartments, but none better than my home-made bread!

you know ,, i found it does kinda bother me when women i have been friends with for some time go on into the corporate world,, career wise, then all the sudden they start calling me "Hon". they usually do this when they are refering to an experience they feel is isolated to them,, something they seem to be sure i am not familiar with.
