I'm an American citizen, I voted against Bush and his war. He is as unpopular here as he is abroad.

America once was a respected nation. Now, we are frightening and pissing off the entire world. Other than our stance on Iran, the rest of the world wants nothing to do with us.
Our allies, some have stuck with us (THANK you and bless you), and others have (rightly?) abandoned us. But you can't really blame them.

The world was with us after 9-11, and supported us in Afghanistan. George Bush has destroyed all of the goodwill that the world had toward us when he unilaterally invaded Iraq. Now we are seen as a villain and a menace. Some nations may be arming themselves because they percieve us as a threat, so it's our own fault.

When the world turns its back on your country, it's time to admit that you could be wrong.

To non-US citizens: What can we do to right this wrong? How can we regain your respect?

I love my country, but that doesn't mean I support everything it does.

This is coming from a conservative "hawk". I support a strong military for defensive purposes, and I support UN action in darfur, with US troops contributing. I'm by no means anti-military. I also respect and admire our troops.

But the facts are in, and Iraq was a big whopping mistake. We need to come home, and make sure our military is used only to defend ourselves and our allies from now on.

Please keep your comments civil. Whether you agree or disagree.

Never apologize for the past !!! Yes we made a major mistake but now we go on , learning from that mistake. Besides our mistake was in the occupation . Not in the military invasion. We can work on improving relations with other countries by cooperating with them. Listening to there needs and helping them when we can. Taking there advice once in a while wouldn't hurt us ether.

I'm not a Ronald Reagan fan, but at least with our military build up and from the amount of money we spent building up our military, we looked strong around the world. No other country in their right minds would mess with the U.S. Now, we look so weak and vunerable. Other countries around the world are looking a us and saying "If the United States can't even beat a little country like Iraq, maybe we have a chance".

So your saying that we shouldn't go on the offensive, if I'm reading this right. yah, why don't we go groveling back to the UN asking for forgiveness, why don't we ask France for forgiveness. Right. Do you remember the last time France ever helped us out, ever backed a decision we made. Even when Clinton was in office the world despised us. Same with Carter. At least with Reagan and the Bush's the world may have hated us but they respected and feared our abilities.

It has gone terribly bad somehow, some time. I don't like the fact that Americans are dying, some daily over in Iraq. They should be brought back home. I wish we could just settle whatever problems America has with any country and everyone be on their own unless the country's in a desperate need. :( What is the world coming to?

Apologize for what? Giving the people of Iraq a chance at freedom? Stopping the mass murders by their leader? Allowing sports players the ability to lose a game without being killed? Stopping the torture of people being put through a tree shredder. You can apologize, but this American is damn proud of what we are giving the people of Iraq. If you don't like freedom you are also free to go else where.

Get out of Iraq, YES! But apologize? HELL NO! It's time for us to stop being the world police and let the rest of the world carry their own weight for a change.

Apologize for taking in more immigrants than the rest of the world combined? For defeating Nazism, communism? For providing more aid to the world than any other country? You really are a liberal hand wringer, aren't you?

Number one priority is to defend ourselves whether the world like it or not. No apologies. You must be kidding.
