Use Memory and SPD tabs. If the other stick is not detected, power off and unplug PC, Pull out RAM sticks. Clean the pins by rubbing with the eraser tip of a pencil. Put RAM back, reseat twice before locking. Also try interchanging slot positions of the RAM sticks.

Maybe one of the sticks of RAM is bad, or your BIOS(Basic Input Output System) will not support more than 256 Mb, depending on how old your machine is. If you know the make and model of your computer you can search on-line for the manufacturers website and look up the machines compatibility. I have a COMPAQ Presario, bought in 2000 and supports 1 Gb of random access memory. I hope this helps you.
