He separated from the Church of Rome by using fact the Pope refused to furnish a divorce from Katherine, aunt of the Emperor, who replaced into laying siege to Rome on the time. He and Mistress Boleyn have been "infanticipating" on the time, reportedly. Henry did not flow very some distance with the reforms, although he did take excitement in the money and land coming in by using (Thomas) Cromwell's "visitations of the monasteries". the substantial differences got here alongside with Edward, the King's basically valid son, who replaced into knowledgeable by a team of robust Lutherans. Separatists, as reported above, had given up on any reform of the C of E and desperate to flow off on their very own.

1. To get a divorce. After the War of the Roses it was considered important for the king to have a male heir. Never mind that his son was a non-entity and his daughter became one of the greatest monarchs of British history. His daughter was from the wife he married after the divorce, so she supported the Anglican church too.
2. to compromise between the rising Protestant forces and the still strong Catholic forces in England. Anglicanism is still OK for people who can't decide if they want to be Catholic or Protestant. Ironically he wound up strengthening the Protestant forces to the point of Puritanism, which set up a commonwealth and killed the king.
3. To steal the enormous wealth of the church for himself, closing all the monasteries and convents, and confiscating their property. He had extravagant tastes and was trying to build up the state. His daughter was able to start the British empire on the foundation he built.

He was Catholic like most other people.
He was married at an early age to Catherine of Argon. She was older than him and they had one daughter, Mary.
Wanting a son, he wanted to divorce Catherine and marry Anne Boleyn who was already pregnant with his next child.
Henry desperately wanted a son .According to catholic law , he and Catherine could not be divorced.
He began the Anglican church and made himself the figure head rather than the Pope who was the top Catholic official.
This way he could grant the divorce and marry Anne.
He worked to change the religious habits of all catholics [ killing many ] so they they would pray to him, not the Pope.
Anne delivered another daughter , Elizabeth.
He used himself as head of this new church to behead Anne and continue marring others until his death.
You should look this up. It is interesting stuff.

As the previous answerer said, to enable his annulment/divorce from Catherine of Aragon, who had been married to his older brother Arthur before the brother's death (Henry's grounds for annulment), after Catherine failed to give him a masculine heir. She birthed Mary I, who was an ineffectual and barren queen.
The Church of England (also called Anglican, and Episcopalian) is about as far from Roman Catholicism as Baptists are from Methodists -- i.e., not far at all. But every little bit counts -- and it enabled him to get that divorce, marry Anne Boleyn, and father Elizabeth I.

One: to be able to get a divorce.
Two: the Catholic Church took in a lot of money that Henry wanted for his own pockets.

The catholic church didn't (still doesn't) allow divorce, but good old Henry, married to Catherine of Aragon, wanted to divorce her to be able to marry Anna Boleyn. He was such a womanizer, but also sly enough to find solutions which suited him. The 'solution' for Anna was decapitation after she didn't please him nomore...

Beacuse RELIGION is a Business, and Henry wanted to stuff his own coffers rather than stuffing those of the Bishop of Rome ....... The Divorce thing was just the excuse he needed....... When people tell you that it is not the Money that counts, but the principle ....... Its the Money ....... Mans' entire existence, and his future ....... are all about FAITH ....... NOT Religion.......
