I currently have ddr2 533 pc4200 Ram and im upgradeing my pc basicly rebuilding it from ground up and i was wondering if it was worth the extra money for DDR3(speed wise i know what the price is).

My next pc build is
Quad Core2duo 2.4ghz
ram????not sure yet
120gb hd main 300gb slave HD
Nvidia 8800GTS 320mb

To use DDR3, you will need a new motherboard. DDR3 is not backwards compatible.

I would get DDR3 as it is the future it depends what chipset you are going for as well. As soon intel will be releasing the new penryn series and these will be much faster. So if u get a motherboard with an Intel P35 and the motherboard has DDR3 you are future proofed. But are you a gamer????

To the first answerer, well yes that is a given, and it looks like he has already said he doing that.

As of right now, there is no performance gain, DDR3 is still in its infancy. But a year from now, things will be different, DDR3 will be the way to go, so you need to plan your upgrade schedule around that.
