what exactly is alternative music?

i know, this is probably a stupid question to you, but i think it's one thing and someone is telling me its another thing... oh so confusing. thanks in advance :)

Oh that? It's all diferent kinds of music. But they mostly just have music that has no beat, no one's singing, or they're are singing very weird lyics and, well I think that they just don't sing good. I just really find that kind of music annoying to me and has no sence. And that's true, it's sometimes made my little known college students. Like my brother listens to an alternative radio station called 88.1, just so weird and different. And a time I was in the car with him, I heard a Green Day song, so that really shows you that there's all different kinds of music. Including somolian, sometimes spanish, rock/pop, and a whole bunch I can't explain. But here are some artists that play alternative music.

Well, I look at it this way. Rock is obviously not what it used to be considering all the negative comments that are thrown at people that like FOB, MCR, TBS, basically any modern band. I think that the new modern rock is sort of an alternative to classic rock, so if people don't enjoy that, they can check out the alternative. Alternative is usually thought of as secondary, but I think alternative rock is awesome.

It was originally used to describe bands that were outside of the mainstream.
It's mainly used now to describe indie bands or bands that refuse to go mainstream ie: Radiohead, the Cure, The Shins, etc.
It's acually very hard to describe cause it really doesn't have one meaning cause alternative can describe anything but is just used to describe music of a certain sound, ie: the post punk indie even though thats not all alternative is.

i think of option skill that the music consists of factors of a particular kind, yet someway deviates from the common music of the kind. as an occasion, Linkin Park's stuff is seen option rock by way of fact it has rock in it, however the rap factors set it aside from mainstream rock.

its kinda like rock made from people who are in college or are supposed to be in college. alternative and indie are alike but alternative is more mainstream

examples are gym class heroes (who recently went mainstream) and boys like girls (who also recently went mainstream)
