The same thing happened to me one time. I go thte money order back and there is number on the back of it somewhere. If you call that number they can give you the specifics on what they think you should do. When I called they told me I had to send the money order and reciept to them (wester union, whoever) and they would send me a check for the amount of the money order but it was going to take about 30-60 days. So it sucks if you need the money now but there is a way to get your money back. You can't scratch out anything or else no one will take it. My advice is to leave it like it is and contact the number on the back of the money order. The place you bought it from can't take it back. There are certain rules they have to go by and they can't take a money order that isn't made out to them usually.

Do not white it out! When you do a money order, you get some stub as a receipt. Bring that stub along with the rest of the money order back to where you got it. whiting it out will make it look like fraud.

Where ever you purchased the money order should have records of who they sold it to. That person can cash the money order there. The money orders sold at my bank don't have any place to make them out to anyone. Whoever has possession of the money order can cash it.

Take the m.o. and the receipt tab back to where you bought it. You can get a refund.
