the world is like the half full of half empty glass thing- it's always both, but it just depends on how you look at it. and purpose in living is what you choose it to be. it's a chance to fulfill your own desires...and gain a relationship with God if you're christian
and amy, if you think he should just jump, then tell him to be grateful for being alive, don't you think you should just jump if you're that upset over "whiny people" who simply haven't found their purpose in life like many others?

what is simply is -- the world isn't as screwed up as you might think it is. humans are plenty screwed up -- just remember to keep it i perspective. if you put a human next to the earth they are very small. even the largest thing civilazation ever made is a little dot compared to the planet.
there is lots of great stuff about the world and lots of great people -- you just have a culture of egomaniacs all screaming be heard over each other. crazy people are always louder than sane people.
i am sure at some time you found something somewhere that made life ok -- even if some idiot told you that you were supposed to be doing something else. people with no lives always have lots of advice on how other people should live.
really life is what you make it -- find something you like and do it.

You need to watch the movie called "The Five People You Meet in Heaven", then you will understand why the world is like it is. Everything happens for a reason. Even you being here and the things you do have purpose. We all do, God knows what he is doing. Have faith!!

Part of the problem with the world is the whiny people who think it is more screwed up than it really is.
