Hypothetically speaking--say the Wolv's BLOW OUT their remaining opponents. Do you think there is any way they could compete for the national championship, or would the mystery formula throw them out? Or did they just end their run for the championship.

Should they be eligible for the National Championship?

This is why we need a playoff system.
If Michigan were to blow out every opponent and even beat the Buckeyes by 40, that's only good enough for small consideration. But by doing so, they would at least be a top 8 team, so if there was an 8-team playoff they would at least have a better shot than letting the BCS decide.

But to answer your question, on paper they still could compete for it if they blow everyone out but based on the BCS committee's selections/votes no they don't have a shot this year. Well actually:
-If USC loses twice
-LSU loses twice
-West Virginia loses to Louisville
-Louisville loses to Rutgers/USF/some Big East school
-Whoever wins between Texas/Oklahoma loses at some point in the season
-Michigan runs the table and murders Ohio State
The I'd say they have a shot. So keep your fingers crossed, because that is a lot of crap to pray for. Unless you're not a Wolverine fan of course.

Well they could still play for it, especially with all the talk that you won't have undefeated teams. If that holds true they lost week 1, if they don't lose any more and everyone else loses at least one game they have a decent chance. Yeah they lost to a Division 1AA team, but it is also the two-time defending Division 1AA Champ. So it is basically the best of the next tier down. It is an embarrassment BUT won't stop them if the stars align from next week on.

Ask yourself,if the wolverines are eligible for the national championship, then would Appalachian State be World Champion because they whip Michigan, the wolverines can not and should not even be considered contenders for the national championship

No, they should, not. I know App. State is a great team, but if you lose to a FCS team then you shouldnt, and to the guy that said Vermont Class D states, we have Division 1, 2 and 3, and the only good football is D! with Bennington, Brattleboro, Hartford, Middlebury, Essex, Rutland, Mount Saint Josephs, Burlington, South Burlington, St. Johnsberry, and BFA-St.Albans, sad i know

Not with teams such as USC and Florida tearing it up. I think there might be two major teams that are undefeated at the end of this year...USC being one and probably Texas so I say the Wolves are out. Lets not mention Penn State and Ohio State are still on the schedule and should they get through that they still have to play the Badgers who might be able to give them troubles. Sorry Blue fans.

They would be in the national title picture, but they would be the last major 1 loss team to get in meaning theyre could be only one more one loss team and everyone else would have to have two losses.

If they run the table and destroy everyone then they might contend for a national title. But yesterday's loss will hurt them down the road.

Honestly with that hypothesis, no. USC will go undefeated as well as LSU. If big blue runs the table, they'll play a BCS bowl game.
