I have an 03 Dodge stratus and it has started idling really high. It will reach speeds between 30-35 mph without me even touching the gas, from a dead stop. When I put it in park the engine revs and then goes back down. Whats going on?

Check for a vacuum leak. My Oldsmobile did the same thing once. While I was doing some routine maintenance on it I had accidentally knocked a vacuum line loose and when I started the car it was revving like it was going to take off.

The "Idle air control" unit is stuck, take it to the dealer, as it has to be set after installing a new one!

Diesel cars dont have these problems, and get a lot better gas mileage!!!

Sounds like the timing belt jumped a tooth.

Have it changed tomorow, or have a engine change done later.

Those engines are "interference" engines and bend valves when the timing belt breaks.

Do you have over 60,000 miles on it?
