One of the first signs that a woman is ovulating is that her cycles will be very regular and of a normal length but this isn't 100% accurate. To be sure you will need to chart your Basal Body Temps for a few cycles to see if you can clearly identify ovulation. Here's a great website-- www.fertilityfriend.com and get the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler.
Also, women have some secondary fertility sings such as mittleschermz which is pain or cramping around the ovaries, increased libido, swelling of the labia, and your cervix goes up very high, gets soft, opens slightly, and your mucus turns to the consistancy of raw eggwhites.

Ovulation signs and symptoms are often subtle. However, the most obvious and reliable predictor of ovulation is an increase in cervical mucus, which results in a clear discharge that has the appearance of raw egg whites. This increase in cervical mucus occurs right before ovulation.
At the time of ovulation, some women may also experience:
Mild abdominal cramps (mittelschmerz)
Breast tenderness
Bloating
Increased sex drive
There are other signs and symptoms of ovulation, but these are less obvious, including:
Changes in basal body temperature. Ovulation may cause a slight increase in temperature. You will be most fertile during the two to three days before your temperature rises.
Hormone surge. Over-the-counter ovulation kits test your urine for a surge in hormones that occurs before ovulation.
Changes in the position and firmness of the cervix. An increase in estrogen right before ovulation causes your cervix to rise and soften.
I found that an inexpensive LH surge test bought online worked the best for me-I could see the signs of ovulation-but I was getting it at the end-not prior-with the test i new this is it. Good luck.

You know you're ovulating when you have breast tenderness, bloating, & sometimes nausea around the time of ovulation. Some people experience cramping on one side of their stomach & sometimes spotting. It's also good to keep track of your basal temperature & track your cervical fluid. When your fluid is like egg whites & stretchy this is your best time for conceiving. I hope this helps you. Good luck!
