Wow! That's a lot of info to try to cover in just a few paragraphs, since there are entire BOOKS on the subject!

You need to purchase your aquarium about 5 days before you buy any fish. You have to set the aquarium up and let it run with the filter and heater on (light on during the day, off at night) for 3 to 5 days- this way beneficial bacteria grows in the tank- if you don't do this, the fish will most likely die when you put them in the tank. Your best bet is to go to the pet store and talk to the person about what type of fish you should get. I have Platys, Green Cory catfish, Clown Loaches, and a sucker fish to clean the algea between cleanings. Also, never do a complete water change. Only change 15%-25% of the water every 2 weeks (use water conditionar and bacteria supplement) and make sure you let the water get to room temperature before putting it into the tank. Also, purchase a gravel vaccum from the petstore to clean the gravel out every 2 weeks during the water change (the vaccum takes the water out and the excess food/waste that has become rotten).

Well, unless you've got your heart set on a particular sort of fish your best bet is to pick the aquarium size you want and the level of aggression you want in your fish. Then it will be easier to figure out what type of fish to stock the tank with and once you know what kind of fish you want it's easier to put decorations and pick a filter and all that jazz! :) Repost more information and I can make some suggestions.

That is a HUGE question. You'll need to break it up into smaller questions (what size tank? what kind of fish? what equipment to go with those? what preparation before the fish?) and find answers to those separately.
And please get answers before you dive in, because aquariums can be VERY frustrating if you don't know what you're doing. I mean, unless you don't mind dead fish, cloudy water, algae, etc.

Make sure you don't get fish what would kill other fish. This would upset them and can be a lost of money. Also get only one kind of fish, salt or sweet (I believe is how you say it). Also, get one of those ones that suck from the walls of the tank, they really help on keeping the tank clean.

go to a reputable aquarium store and talk to the people working there...make sure and ask about fish you might be interested in...the store I go to has color coded tags on each tanks of fish so you can tell agrressive..nonagressive....etc...have fun and enjoy...Stay away from snails they are very invasive and hard to get rid of or control.
