I think they might have been emo all along. I listen to their lyrics, a lot of pent up angst for certain. I mean even their name has the word "Moody" in it and that just screams emo.

Currently there is a bill floating around the Senate that proposes to retro-categorize all the classic rock bands of the 60's and 70's to emo provided they meet federal guidelines.

Mr. Bill is right. The song Nights in White Satin was
origionally recorded in 1961, but was not released untill 1967.
It was on a few of the Moody's albums, but never released as a single untill 1972. The song reached the top 40 in 9/72.
It reached #2 on the charts, and was on the charts for 14 weeks.

The Moody Blues are Classic Rock

The Moody Blues began as a mid 60's beat/R&B band, and even featured future 'Paul McCartney and the Wings' guitarist Denny Laine in their lineup on the 1st album.
They then switched to psychedelic symphonic rock, with some folk overtones, and eventually to progressive rock by the time of the 'Question of Balance' album (my personal favorite).
One person here called them a 'classic rock' band. I've never heard of anyone calling them that before, though I suppose they did have a few hits that some of the more recent classic rock radio stations play from time to time.
To me they were more of an 'album band' than a 'singles band'.
I call them what they were called back in the 60's and 70's, and the term 'classic rock' wasn't even used at that time.
They are a psychedelic / progressive rock band, that has at times verged on Pop as well.
Who or what the f*ck is Emo? A Sesame Street character??
'Tickle me Emo'?

They're usually listed along with other prog rock bands like Yes, ELP, King Crimson, Genesis, and Pink Floyd. I would consider them more of a progressive band, since their material largely didn't follow the norm of the time and was more concept based.

I hope this is a joke since the Moody Blues is definetly classic rock.

Hahaha, The Moody Blues are awesome! I saw them in concert about 10 years ago and they all were wearing, what appeared to be, the puffy shirts from Seinfeld! They looked like pirates, ARRRGH!

At best, they would have to be considered prog rock.
