That is a great Qu! I have come to the conclusion--at 78!!--that the old old system of parents scoping out the field; knowing the parents and judging which man would be good for their daughter--was the best!! CERTAIN LY NOT for me and my generation!! I was a young woman of the '50's and settling down to the expectations for young women NEVER APPEALED to me!!! I wanted adventure; learning etc. I got it--but ended up marrying a young man--bright, wonderful good guy, but whose father was paranoid schizophrenic. My guy went through 3 yrs Army (basic, leadership school and OCS and 2 yrs as an officer); then went back to UC Berkeley for a degree in Forestry (5 yrs); but then he began to change and was diagnosed as paranoid psychophrenic. This forced me on to develop my skills and learning; married a middle-aged guy who was willing to have a child; married, and he was abusive (probably drove him crazy with the responsibility); and went on my own with my daughter! I got advanced degrees in Guidance and Counseling and raised my daughter and had 21 yrs of wonderful, fulfilling work. My daughter is a terrific mother now and business woman and happily married. -----I'm not unhappy with my choices. Certainly, not the life I'd have envisioned, but one that I'm very thankful for!!-As for your Q: I don't know what you're looking for in "good men". But, good luck--whatever.

Good men get married and stay married. Bad men get divorced and then hang out on personal ads, looking for yet another woman to take advantage of. Our society needs to look at men's behavior and do something to change it.

Seriously, there are a few out there, play your cards right and you just may land one.
I have some great platonic male friends--whom I would never, ever think of getting mixed up with--I know too much :)

They're fed up of being blamed for everything wrong in society (e.g. the post two-above mine)... so they're going anywhere as long it gets them some peace.
