The Iliad is the story of the abduction of Helen by Paris and the siege and fall of Troy. The Odyssey is the story of Odysseus's voyage home after the fall of Troy. The siege of Troy took more than ten years, not a long weekend as shown in the film "Troy". That film shares with Lawrence of Arabia the spectacle of the Sun rising in the west - not a mean feat!

The Iliad is Homer's Odyssey. You should read it. No movie really covers the whole story. It's an easy read and very fun.

Inside the Walls of Troy - it is about Paris and Helen's love and the fall of Troy told from Helen's point of view. You could also just watch the movie Troy, it focuses on the romance and it add's another one too. I love the movie.

Bullfinch's Mythology is my main resource for all ancient myths/gods and goddesses/heroes. It's a very thick book in the reference section in your library.
Good hunting!
