The Core Duo is Intel's older dual-core processor, and is much slower than Core 2 Duo (which was introduced last fall, and is currently the best line of consumer processor on the market).

AMD's Athlon 64 x2 processors are much better than Core Duo, but not as good as Core 2 Duo.

The term "Centrino" refers to a combination of features involving wireless access, power saving etc- it applies to computers using particular Intel CPUS, motherboards, and network adapters. It's a marketing term.

The core 2 duo is intels top of the line, latest generation. It is faster and more powerful. The AMD version the Turion X 2 is close but not quite as good. It sells at a big discount.
