i keep reading about midwives giving mothers late in their pregnancy a small glass of wine to help with labor induction. the only problem i can think would come of this is the chance that if your baby was born within a few hours of the glass of wine, the baby may be slightly under the influence and may have a hard time nursing or even breathing. BUT that's just my theory. I've been considering it a lot myself.... I'm 39 weeks, 2 days. i sure would enjoy a glass of red wine right now! :)

there would be no harm done as far as "fetal alcohol syndrome" goes.

spicy food just gets the bowels moving... which I've read helps get your uterus excited about labor. .... i think this is why castor oil works sometimes. (but i would NOT suggest castor oil!!)

My OB recommended drinking a glass of wine to relax when my labor had stalled, but I don't know that it will have much effect at 38 or 39 weeks unless early labor has already begun. You guys just need to rest for your little baby's will be coming soon enough. There isn't any method that will stimulate labor if the body and baby aren't ready. I would just continue walking at this stage and see if that helps, at the very least the exercise will help you sleep better.

Best wishes :)

I have a glass of wine nightly (I'm at 33 weeks).. and have been doing so for most of my third trimester. I had to cease my anxiety medication when I got preggo, so I was told a glass of wine is alright this far along...

I highly doubt it will induce labor as I read that wine actually PREVENTS uterine contractions.....

Just let nature take its course (^ - ^) Theres no wife's tales that make you go into labor (though my husband and I are going to have fun trying to use the "Love making" method close to our due date lol).. my sister used a certain well known chemical at home to start her labor, but I wouldnt recommend that to anyone! lol

To sum it up, no, Wine will not cause labor lol....

but it will relax you a bit!

Cheers!

Everything you ingest your baby does too so I wouldn't recommend it personally. Then again, so many people do far worse while they are pregnant, I've known people to have a couple of bourbon's at night before breast feeding to make the baby sleep better. Personally I er on the side of caution when it comes to my kids. I wouldn't be in a hurry to speed it up, enjoy your last few days of being able to relax, and the baby will come at exactly the right time for him or her. They always do! It's us that's impatient!

when my labor was stalled my doctor suggested i go for a long walk then go home and take a warm(not hot) bath and drink a glass of wine, the logic being the exercise could possibly restart the contractions..and if it didnt it could be a stress issue and the relaxation would help get it going again...but i dont think it will work if your not actually in labor already.....also the spicy food thing doesnt work trust me.

at 39 weeks a glass of wine is harmless, but ineffective in starting labor. As are spicy foods. She can try red raspberry leaf, they sell it in health food stores.

There is a warning label on every bottle of wine" women should not drink alcoholic beverages during pregnacy because of the risk of complications". No it won't snap(?) things up. Why would any women risk having there baby early after 9 months of carrying him/her. Remember every thing you eat and DRINK goes into your babies system. Save the wine to celebrate after your babe is born. Unless you are breast feeding. You don't want your baby boozing it up. Ive
had four. I cannot imagine a doctor telling a pregnant women to drink alcohol. Your baby could get sick from the booze in your system.

Wine probably wouldn't do too much harm, but I wouldn't take the chance. You're so close to the end, why 'eff it up now?
