First you have to determine if it has any compression and spark. When you pull the starter cord it should have spots that pull harder, if not it may not have enough compression to run. Have you checked to see if it has spark? If it doesn't the ignition module may be bad. Next would be the carburetor and this is the most likely. These are diaphram carbs and need to be rebuilt every few years. The diaphram gets out of shape and it will quit working. It is an easy job and will cost about $12 for the repair kit. While you have it apart to rebuild the carb you may as well replace the fuel filter in the gas tank also. Make sure the two small fuel lines don't have leaks or replace them too if they need it.

You need to get rid of all the old gas, oil, fuel mix and start tuning it up. There could be water or dirt in the mix,or in the can that had the gas in it. First make sure you have the exact matching spark-plug. I know there are way to many that look exactly alike, but are not. And don't be shy,if you need to ask for help, just do it, because it won't spark if you have the wrong plug. Next get a nail file or needle file and lightly file the contacts clean.( just until you see shiny metal) Next make sure you have 40-1 fuel mix and use regular gas, not high grade. And make sure it's well lubricated. It should start after that. Bye Oh, I'm not a HandyMan,just a girl.

I had a Homelite with similar problems. Mine turned out to be a couple of things.

First, check the fuel primer bulb. Those little rubber domes tend to dry out and crack over time. Mine was letting air into the fuel line. Replace it if necessary.

The other problem I had was aging fuel lines. I had made the mistake of leaving fuel in the trimmer when not in use. Over time, the oil gummed things up in there and the lines became clogged. Try replacing the fuel lines. And in the future, best bet is to drain all the fuel back out of the trimmer after each use then run the engine until it stops.

Every trimmer I have ever owned used 30 to 1 ratio.

Check the hole in the muffler to see if its clogged and if thats open then take carb off and take apart and clean with carb cleaner that you can get at any automotive parts store or walmart or dollar store
