I would like to buy a used car. I may need to replace the car brake. The car could be civic or corolla. How much for the cost, including labor and parts? I heard that it might cost $1,000. Is it true? The brake replacement is the most expensive thing in the maintancement. Is it correct? Thank you!

You can spend $1000. but it'll pay for three complete brake jobs easy by any independant brake mechanic. Thats using on-shore brake rotors and organic or ceramic breke pads. Let an independant mechanic do it Honda and Toyota can see you pulling in already. Cost of repair in off-shore owned company cars is nothing short of outrageous.

Why do you have to repair brakes on a used car anyway. It can't be inspected with bad brakes. Make them get it done.

For a Honda Civic, it shouldn't cost that much. You're obviously being taken advantage of. Check some honda civic enthusiasts forums, they'll tell you exactly what you need and how much to expect. I doubt you need a complete brake job, so try another mechanic so they could diagnose your vehicle correctly. It may be just the pads (usually under $120 pts/lbr).
