On newer models, the condensate water collects in the back of the unit near the condensing coil. The fan picks up some of the water and sprays it against the condensing coil, cooling off the coil and hastening the evaporation of the condensed water. Excess water is drained off via a drain in the rear of the pan.

The water should drain out the back of the unit through a hole in the bottom.

the water condenses into the drip pan and simply evaporates or drains out on the outside of the unit
