Okay everyone, lets hear your opinion. Here's a fun question for you on this holiday weekend. Do UFO's exist, and if so, do you think the government is withholding information? If so, why?

Chuck: When I say why, I don't mean why would they withhold information, I mean why/what are your reasons for believing they do.

Without a doubt

Dolphins are aliens and have been on earth for millions of years - they try to communicate with us but we are too stupid to break their language code

There are just too many sighting from all over the world to be hoaxes.

We have been inter-pollenated with some other of the alien forms and have hybrids amongs us.

I don't have any idea what they have there but they are serious about it. I lived in Las Vegas for almost 30 years, and Central Nevada is a weird place. They have cameras and listening devices set up all around the boundaries of most every base or range there that would make James Bond envious. Last year I went down the Extraterrestrial highway and had to stop to let the dog go whiz. I didn't even get her back in the car before a pick-up in the desert popped up over the hill to watch what I was doing. I barely got rolling when six more GSA pick-ups came down the road. I am sure if I was still sitting there I'd have been questioned. This was at least 150 yards away from their fence and on the opposite shoulder of the highway. Nevada has many weird restricted areas. The one which intrigues me most is on Mt Charleston (as seen from Vegas). There you can see a bright silvery shiny building on top. The access to this is on the back (Pahrump) side of the mountain. This area has some very extraordinary protection as well. Every passable wash within miles of this place has a serious metal post sticking up, along with placed boulders, and whatnot rendering it impassable. The immense effort they went to to keep everyone out is incredible. While we were sitting at the main gate on the road that goes to this whatever it is, a car went through with license plates that simply read 'USA'. I have never seen license plates like that. I would bet that if I had been snoopy enough to try and hike my way in to find out what they do there I might find out, but I would be taken away and never get the chance to ever tell anyone what I saw.

I do believe the Government is holding back info. When I was younger about 5 or 6 of us seen one east of Eugene,OR. This was back in the 60's (no drugs were involved).A Call was made to the Sheriffs Department who said they had many reports of this & a small story was in the local newspaper the next day & that was the end of it. I think part of the reason back then the Government denies UFO's is because of the cold war with the Soviets. We din't know for sure if they were Russian made of from somewhere else. We on Earth still resort to violence to resolve problems. There must some smarter beings than that out there somewhere.

I believe UFOs exist. The universe is so big and we're the only ones inhabiting it!!! Give me a break!!! That's a lot of wasted space and resources.
I don't think the government in withholding information. I do believe that the government does have technology more advanced than we can imagine but there's still bugs in it or it's too dangerous so they haven't released it yet. Sometimes when they test this technology we mistaken it for a UFO and they withhold that information.

From Rosewell to Area51 the only logical reason could be high technology. Over the years some now believe that our new USAF fighters have such technology. Also there has been buzz about a project Aurora. On Roswell none of the explainations don't fly. Including the air balloon.

(Texican: actually, UFO's were reportedly seen on many occasions prior to the "age of flight," however, the validity of these "sightings" is questionable.)

UFO stands for "unidentified flying object," and since not everyone can recognize something like a Sikorsky Cypher, there's obviously going to be some confusion about what it is. I realize that probably isn't the kind of answer you were looking for, so I'll say this:

I don't personally believe that A)"UFOs" are extraterrestrial beings coming to spy on us, or B) the government is staging some mass coverup of extraterrestrial life. That isn't to say that I'm not open to the possibility -- it's just that I have yet to see any convincing evidence to support either A or B. Assuming they were, however, would we really want to know? It goes without saying that the government does withhold information about various things from the public, but not for no reason. They keep us from knowing things that could potentially cause mass panic or compromise national security -- I mean, look at the Cuban Missile Crisis: if news of what was going on had broken any sooner than it did, we might be living on a nuclear wasteland today. While it is sometimes unsettling to think that we might not be getting the whole story, I think there is a certain degree of comfort to be had in the knowledge that they allow us to stay relatively blissful in our ignorance.

As for the people who try to cite things like the Majestic 12 documents as proof that the gov't found something out-of-this-world at Roswell and are covering it up, I have only this to say: if the government really was trying to cover it up, why would they declassify any documents which could possibly lend credence to your theories? If for no other reason than this, I sincerely hope they aren't hiding anything simply because of how remarkably stupid you would have to be to release documents which could only serve to incriminate you.

It should also be noted that most purported UFO sightings occur on or near military bases, but rather than putting two-and-two together, some people jump to the conclusion that these UFOs must mean that aliens are very interested in our military capabilities. Every time I hear something like this, I feel like climbing onto my roof and at the top of my lungs yell out: "WAKE UP YOU F*****G MORONS, WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK THEY DO AT AIR FORCE BASES AND MILITARY INSTALLATIONS -- RUN AROUND AND SHOOT EACH OTHER WITH NERF GUNS?!?!" If you see something you don't recognize flying in military airspace, and it isn't being shot at, then I think it's probably a safe bet that the AF is fully aware of it and in control of the situation (i.e., it's something of theirs).

Lastly, as far as so-called "alien abductions" are concerned, I would be far more inclined to believe that it is actually the government who is responsible. The U.S. gov't is certainly no stranger to conducting insidious health experiments on an unsuspecting public -- things like Tuskegee, MKULTRA, Stateville Penitentiary, Castle Bravo on the Marshall Islands, the radiation tests at the Fernald School for disabled children, "the Monster Study" -- the list goes on. While there are many things our government does and has done that it should definitely be held highly accountable for, I do not personally believe that concealing the existence of extra-terrestrials is one of them. As much as I love the X-Files, I just can't bring myself to buy into an alien-conspiracy theory.

No. UFO reports started up during the Age of Flight and many reports were made around U.S. Air Force bases.

Guess what, the Air Force flies night missions and tests out experimental aircraft. A VTOL (Vertical Takeoff and Landing) aircraft can look alot like a strange object with bright lights hovering.

Military spy aircraft flying at high altitudes can look pretty mysterious to observers.

Again, there is no mere coincidence that once Man started to fly, Man started to see UFO's. I mean, we didn't have UFO sightings in the Old West, did we?

UFO's exist but that doesn't means aliens do. I think the government knows more than they're letting on, maybe so as not to cause panic.

Liberals are aliens and Mexicans are illegal aliens.
And yes UFOs do exist as who ever spots one can not identify what it is.

As for outer space who knows. Area 51 or 54 or what ever this makes for book sales and History Chanel shows. Is there I have not seen any evidence of them.
And for the Government they would not let it out if they did have it as Orson Wells "War of the Worlds" would look like child's play along with the be bob people committing mass suicide so they would not be able to give the information out as there are too many nut jobs that would flip out. But on the other hand it might be a good way for the Lib's to depart and meet up with the mother ship and we would not have to deal with hem for a while.
GWB let it out if you have Intel on UFOs Please.

I definitely think there are UFOs. The government is using discretion, can't have everyone all spooked about our fellow inhabitors, lol! So, I don't believe govt. is actually witholding just keeping our attention focused in OTHER less complicated subjects.
