have NO solution as LHS, under absolute value, is always non-negative, but RHS is -5, negative, so they cannot be equal!

well i'm assuming you know the basics about absolute value here, but i'll repeat anyway. The absolute value of something is always positive, as it is the distance away from zero. like if it is
|-3|=x, -3 is 3 digits away from zero, so x=3. or, the absolute value of a negative number is positive, and the absolute value of a positive number has to be positive as well. in your problem you don't even have to look at the equation, it is impossible for the answer to be negative 5. If you need any help on algebra or absolute value in particular, i suggest you go to

To do absolute value, hold Shift and press the key right above Enter (backslash).

|(7/2)x + 3| = -5

The answer is no solution because the answer to an absolute value problem is ALWAYS positive. This equation is saying that the absolute value of this is a negative number, which is entirely impossible.

Just use shift \ to get |
|7/(2x+3)| = -5
The absolute value of anything is always positive by definition. Therefore it is impossible for |x| < 0. This was sort of a trick question.

an absolute value can never be negative. say !7-2!=-5 it would be wrong. if the answer was positive 5 it would be right.

because it equals -5 and absolute value is ALWAYS positive. the only way that could be correct would be if there was a negative sign before the absolute value, out side of it
