No. I can't believe the amount of BAD information out there. I don't know where it comes from and so many people actually believe it.
Girls are done growing at 19-20. "Under-wire" bras are not "wire" anymore. It's plastic. It gives much better support than wire ever did.
Your mother has bad information. That is not true. Under-wire does not, will not damage your breast tissue. Your breasts will grow as big as they are supposed to no matter what you do. It can't be stopped. You can't do anything to make them bigger or smaller.
****OMG. Jessica P. That is NOT true! Bras do NOT cause breast cancer. I don't know where she heard that horrible info. Good grief. She needs to stop telling girls that. Bras don't cause breast cancer.

My mum tolds me that too I have no Idea if its true but if you think about it unless its really tight and digging in then it cant do any harm can it? after all you do most of ur growing at night and that is when you are not wearing it.
ppl wear tight pants all the time and i dont hear of any health problems, though if they are very tight its clearly unwise and uncomfortable!
also, I have been wearing an underwire since I was about 15 with no problems or pain whatsoever. Ppl say ur stop growing at 18 but I am 22 and have just gone from a 36B to a 34D, after only putting on a little bit of weight, and doing a bit more excercise and eating healthily! I also was eating quite hight fatty foods like pesto and chips and crisps about every two days etc but doing enough walking each day to balance it out.

It's not true that an underwire will harm you, unless perhaps if your bra is way too small and the wire digs into your flesh and gives you bruises. As long as you are wearing the right size you will be fine. I have worn an underwire since age 15 or 16, and in that time gone from 32A to 36C with no problems.

absolute nonsense.
breast size fluctuates throughout your fertile life. i'm 24 and been through a variety of sizes since i was 15. 34A, 34B, 36A, 34C, 34B, 32C, 32D. I finally seem to have stabilised.
What is more important than wired or non-wired is that it's supporting you properly, and what you feel comfortable in. bras should be replaced every 6 months, as after that they tend to lose their elasticity, and won't support you properly. Badly supported boobs through your teens and 20s will lead to saggy boobs in later life!
Have a good look at the bras you've got and how they fit. if they're riding up at the back, then you're wearing the wrong size, and probably need to get measured and fitted again. it's also worth noting that your size may vary slightly depending on the style of bra, and where you buy it (i'm a 32D in one shop on one style and a 34C in another shop in a different style). it's better to go by the fit than the numbers and letters!
it might be wise to get one or two underwired, but have one bra non-wired (far more comfortable to wear if you're on your period if you get a bit achey and sensitive).
if you're a 36AA/34A/32B/30C or cup sizes below, you can easily get away with non-wired - if however you're the following or cup sizes above, you may find underwire offers you better shape and support: 36A/34B/32C/30D.
If you are going to switch to underwired, do make sure you take it off when you go to bed at night.

i heard that too. go to M&S. they offer a large selection of non-wired bras specifically disigned for support. i dont see why it should be damaging, though, as long as you check that it fits properly, about every 6 months with a trained fitter. and also, they sell underwired bras in the tennage department in new look, so it can't be all that damaging

So long as your bra always fits properly. Get measured regularly and get the right size. You should be able to do things like put your arms in the air without any breast tissue coming out the bottom of the bra.
