Ok. I need to find 25 adverbs in the following paragraphs. I really can't figure this out!
Although people often say that bread is the staff of life, few know much about bread, except that it can be easily purchased in the grocery store. Nobody knows exactly when the first seed of grasses were ground, mixed with water, and baked into bread; but remains of the Swiss Lake Dwellers positively prove that people already were baking bread in prehistoric times. Egyptian art clearly depicts the planting, harvesting, and baking of grain. Somehow the Egyptians discovered that allowing wheat dough to ferment produced an unusually light loaf, and they soon learned to build ovens in which they could cook the bread. Flat breads, which are usually made from barley, oats, or rye, were the fare of the common people in the European world until the seventeenth century. White bread was extremely expensive and was rarely eaten, except by the nobility. Although acorn cakes are still eaten in certain areas of the world, we do not ordinarily consider crushed acorns as the ideal ingredient for bread. Until improvements in the methods of milling flour were made, it was almost impossible to obtain the fine grade of flour which is mainly used in the white bread we now eat. The early baker diligently ground the grain by hand, but the resulting flour was fairly course and produced an extremely dark and rough loaf. Early stone mills, which were powered by donkeys or water, seldom produced anything but a gritty flour, finely ground wheat became a reality only recently when steel rollers made a fine grinding possible.
Thanks. I really need help with this!

ADVERBS NOT ONLY MODIFY VERBS, THEY ALSO MODIFY ADJECTIVES:

Although people OFTEN say that bread is the staff of life, few know MUCH about bread, except that it can be EASILY purchased in the grocery store. Nobody knows EXACTLY when the first seed of grasses were ground, mixed with water, and baked into bread; but remains of the Swiss Lake Dwellers POSITIVLY prove that people ALREADY were baking bread in prehistoric times. White bread was EXTREMLY expensive and was RARELY eaten, EXCEPT by the nobility. ALTHOUGH acorn cakes are still eaten in certain areas of the world, we do not ordinarily consider crushed acorns as the ideal ingredient for bread. UNTIL improvements in the methods of milling flour were made, it was ALMOSTimpossible to obtain the fine grade of flour which is MAINLY used in the white bread we now eat.

Your responders are all partially correct. An adverb does modify (describe) a verb, but it ALSO is a word that modifies an adjective or another adverb. He ran fast. Fast is an adverb modifying ran. He ran too fast. Too is an adverb that modifies the adverb fast. The trial was a fairly long ordeal. Fairly is an adverb modifying the adjective long. Remember, the part of speech of a word is determined by its FUNCTION in the sentence. Thus if a word functions as a modifier of a verb, adjective, or adverb, that word is an adverb. One responder offered you the word "tenfold" used as an adverb. Notice the FUNCTION of the word tenfold in his/her example. This from an English teacher. Chow!!

Ok this is obveiously a school assignment so, I'm not going to give you the answer, I will however help you out. An adverb is something that describes the verb, or the action such as she runs FAST. How does she run? Fast? He knows A LOT how much does he know? A lot. An adverb is simply to give more depth to the verb itself, telling you where when and how. It gives a better emphesis of the verb so that you understand the extent of the verb itself. To simply say he runs is not descript enough for you to get the full appreciation of how well she runs. I hope this helps you. Sorry I'm big on you learning for yourself on how to read this kind of thing.

This is the list I obtained:
often
much
easily
exactly
positively
already
clearly
somehow
unusually
soon
usually
extremely
rarely
still
ordinarily
almost
mainly
now
diligently
*by hand
fairly
extremely
*by donkeys or water
seldom
finely
recently

There are 26 there, but 'extremely' occurs twice. The two I have marked with stars are adverb phrases, and I would say it is a bit dodgy to call them adverbs.

First of all an adverb just incase you need a brush up is just like an adjective, red hat, big cat, etc. ADverbs describe and enhance the verbs so if you can find the verbs and the words the make the verb better then you have them. example, walking ..........walking quickly with quickly being the adverb. walking quickly and bruskly , with both quickly and bruskly being adverbs ..
