He is a member of the House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg. He was born on the Greek island of Corfu, and is a grandson of King George I of Greece. He is also a direct descendant of Tsar Nicholas I of Russia, King Christian IX of Denmark, and Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom.
