My BMW dashboard has a yellow light on, its a circle (not smooth) with an exclamation in the middle. The circle is not smooth, it has edges like a gear or what wheel and it right next to the Park/Drive sign. This came right after I have problem starting my car.
Its 328i Year-2000 Model.
Thanks!

That light indicates a fault from the AGS (Transmission Control Module). It could be related to many things, but most likely it was caused by an electrical under voltage if the car is running normally now.

The transmission in your BMW has a completely electronic shifting system. If there is insufficient power to the electronic valve body, your the AGS will be unable to correctly complete an up shift or down shift. When this occurs, the transmission computer enters a "Failsafe Mode" and illuminates the cog with an exclamation point light. Your BMW dealer can properly clear the light. However, to avoid a nasty service charge, you can try disconnecting the negative cable from your battery for approximately 30 minutes. Once reconnected, the AGS should reset the light. If it re illuminates, there may be a real problem with the transmission or charging system.

You also may simply need to replace your battery if it is old or a non-BMW battery.

The C series Mercedes' are a family car and in Germany are widely used as Taxis. The only thing "class and luxury" about them is the name. I personally think that the BMW is better built than the Mercedes, but then as a BMW owner i guess i would say that. I would definitely go for the BMW, but then i would say that as i own a BMW, albeit a 5 series. Neither the BMW or the C series are as reliable as mainstream Japanese cars according to the Consumer Association Reliability Survey. You should realise that when you ask a question like this owners of a BMW will say the BMW is best choice and owners of a C series Merc will say that is best choice. People who own neither and have never owned either are just giving an opinion based on other peoples observations and not from hands on experience. The bottom line is take an extended test drive of both and buy the one YOU like the best. Your money, your choice.

I believe that's your auto transmission warning light.

Your AT is controlled by a computer program... helps you optimize your power/economy...etc.

BMW's E-H (electronic-hydraulic) transmission actually has small actuators inside the tranny. It's possible that one of the actuators is failing/has failed... and the control program sensed it... you have no choice but to bring it back to the dealer.

You can download your online owners manual to confirm the meaning of this warning light at BMW Owners Circle.

The traction control module probably has a low voltage code. Get it scanned and cleared and you should be alright.Make sure your battery is good so you won't have to go through this again in the near future. Good luck

sounds like the tire pressure moniter, try checking your tires. That is though on the older side so it could be a glitch or just a computer malfunction, but definitley check your tires,

Good luck
