ok so I know now not to put q-tips inside of my ear, but I didnt know that about an hour ago. Thing is, for about a week now off n on but especially when I lay down in any position, what feels like some sort of "earwax wall" would slide into place & back out of place when I got up or shook my head. Then, it was really annoying me today so I took a q-tip & swiped out every nook & cranny in there. It didnt feel too good, but I did get a lot of wax out. But...the last time around that I did anything, I dont know what happened, but now I cant hear ANYTHING out of that ear. How do I fix this so its not sore & I can hear again? & how do I keep from getting the "sliding wax wall" again?(and yes I do keep them clean regularly so its not a 'buildup'. If you could help, PLEASE!!!!!! I need ear function!!!!!!! Thanks so much.

See a Doctor.

You probably have something lodged in there. A Doctor can pull it out.

I'm assuming, of course, that you're in the U.S. I realize that there may be cost issues if you have no insurance. If so, go to the Emergency Room. They'll treat you for $40 or so. If that's too much, tell them and they'll work something out. Most (not all) hospitals still maintain that their primary function is patient care, not making money. Its a Hippocratic Oath thang.

If you're not in the U.S., you might be lucky enough to have access to the local Socialized Healthcare system. If you're a tourist, you'll have to pay for care, but believe me, it'll be WAY LESS than what you'd pay in the States and your U.S. insurance will reimburse you if you think its necesary. Don't worry about the quality of care - it'll be at least as good as the U.S. (even in Britain).

If medical care isn't readily available (vacationing in the Sudan?), get a couple of friends with a long pair of tweezers and a flashlight. One holds the flashlight, one works the tweezers. Use care. Grit your teeth. It might sting a little if some ear hair is ripped out with the plug.

Another answer is to get a rubber syringe and put some warm, almost hot, water in it and squirt it deep in your ear. Dump the water out and, if you're lucky the plug will come out, too.

well u might have done something to ur ear drum, or u pushed a chunk of wax in the wrong direction. go take a shower and tilt the ear into the water and then kinda shake ur head out, it wont feel good right away but it should a little while later. ive sorta had that problem before with pushing ear wax in the wrong direction.

if that doesnt help id call ur doctor, and there is also special ear wax softening stuff out there
good luck

otc ear wax removers work for some but i've never had any luck with them. go to the doc and have your ears cleaned out by them. it isn't very pleasant but it's amazing how well it works. you'll swear you were deaf before. some people are just prone to this sort of thing. it may happen again or not. ask your doc what you can do at home.

Never put a q-tip inside your ear. I clean out my ears with peroxide. It works pretty well. put it in at night about once a week, I do one ear each night. when you go to bed sleep on the side the peroxide was put in, this way it will drain out over night. In the morning flush out with warm water. If you clean your ears with a q-tip it will only push the wax deeper in your ear, causing you hearing problems.

Go to a doctor immediately!!! You may have ruptured your ear drum and if that's the case it is really dangerous. I was in a situation similar to yours except it turned out I lodged a piece of wax deep in my ear but I was lucky.

Let your ears do the work. They will clean themselves out. Try not to put anything smaller than your finger in your ear (the joke is don't put anything smaller than your elbow). It may be uncomfortable now, but you should feel better tomorrow if you just leave it alone. Good luck!

You may have ruptured your eardrum or forced the wax wall against the eardrum. In either case, it sounds like you need to see a doctor.

you probably stuck the qtip too far in and damaged your ear. go to the doctor as soon as you can before more damage occurs, and avoid qtips til then
