This is weird stuff. I am a fairly independent person. I try to make my own rules and I don't like following a crowd, or the opinions of any particular person. Recently though, I have been hanging out with a group of people that, the more I get to know them, the more pathetic they seem. It started when I became friends with this guy I work with. He invited me out for drinks or whatever, and I just moved to the city so I was game to meet some new people. After hanging out with these people for a while, it dawned on me that my friend from work is the group "leader". This is frustrating, because when he makes plans, and gets everyone worked up to do what he has planned, sometimes he'll cancel the plans at the last minute. Then, everyone backs out, and comes up with some excuse as to why they don't want to go out anymore. Are people really this spineless? I'm saying to them, "just because HE'S not going out, it doesn't mean you shouldn't". They don't listen. Any advice?

It's a lemming group that will do only what the leader does. They must not have very much confidence in themselves to not carry through on something planned. They have a leader the likes to get them all revved up and throw on the brakes, Knowing they wont do it without him. That's control, and I wouldn't put up with that crap. You should probably start to distance yourself, or find the most adventurous one of the group and do some of these things that were planned.you never know, You might end up with your own group

The world is filled with leaders and followers. The latter always seek the former. Just the way people are. You don't have to let yourself fall into the mindless trap though.

You could try to contact one of the others individually and try to strike a friendship one-on-one. Maybe if he sees you as a leader, he will gravitate toward you too. Others will surely follow, and if anybody does, you could try to influence them to be more independant of the "leader"...

Sounds like sheep to me. They must be real under confident people. I thought once people had jobs they wouldn;t need that superficial junk. Some people are spineless & can't think for themselves.
