Birthday suit
White tuxedo seems a bit.. rude.. It's like "Hey you're all sad but look at me I'm vibrant and shallow." Even though I'm pretty shallow and superficial sometimes so I shouldn't talk =P
Something that would suggest you have something else to do right after or that you were doing something right before you came as if you don't have time for the funeral.. Like a work uniform.

Shorts and halter for women.
Jeans, tennies, or a tee shirt.
A funeral is a very solemn occasion. One should dress appropriately and neatly. Something that wouldn;t embarrass the people and yourself. Somber colors, slacks and a neat dress shirt. Or, go all the way and wear a suit.
For women subdued colors and not too dressy. This is not prom night.

Unless you're in New Orleans celebrating a Second Line-style jazz funeral, it's inappropriate to wear bright, happy colors or something extremely revealing.

Seriously though, you can wear anything dressy enough. I tend to wear subdued colors, but some people wear bright colors. Today funerals are more considered a celebration of the person's life.

I have the sparkliest shortest tightest blood red mini dress with blood red 3 inch spike heels. It is in my closet and I am saving it for my stepmother's funeral. I told my father that is what I am wearing and I cannot wait for that day! DAMNNNNED if I dont wear that!
