First of all, uglyness depends on taste.Someone you might think is ugly cud be rather attractive for someone else.
There are some eople that are considered ugly by a majority of people. They have to work on different aspects of temselves such as character and personnality in order to be attractive.I m not saying its fair, life isnt fair.
When it comes to beautiful ppl that are judged with lower standards all i have to say is that they just pstpone the inevitable.Looks just make it easier for you to meet new people. After a while they are no use at all coz you get to meet the person inside. So, when that time comes, they cant hide.Thats all my point of view of course...

I'd rather have a ugly but intelligent, kind guy than a shallow hot guy any day. But that is just me.
I agree that the world in general has lower standards for the good-looking people. It's not fair... But I don't feel too bad for ugly people. They'll find someone who isn't shallow if they are intelligent and have a great personality. And hey, it means there will be no competition for the smart, awesome guys and girls who aren't hot. The rest of us can get smart, wonderful people without competition just because no one else notices them for their lack of good looks! Great! (I'm only half-joking)

haha. So true. Well people who are really good looking and have horrible personalities usually are horrible because they have to wake up at three in the morning to look that good. I think it's sorta fair. I mean we all have something that makes us special, some it's personality, some beauty, some the ability to make tons of money. Why should we expect anyone to have one of the three? I think that everyone should aim for the best don't you?
EDIT: I like all the answers on here from people who didn't read your question all the way through. They're quite hilairious because while you're trying to speak up for the uglies, they're thinking you're criticizing them. Oh the irony!

ummm as far as society goes - i think its a picture painted by the media but it may be true on certain levels - like applying for a job or something like that, the more attractive person grabs some peoples attention, etc
i cant speak for everyone but i know that personally, this isnt true at all. i have friends that are gorgeous and friends who are butt ugly but i hold EVERYONE to the same standards - i dont tolerate ignorance, racism, etc. from anyone and im the type of girl who will let you know on the spot.
on the other hand, if we're talking relationships here - yeah it is different. i have to be attracted to you physically first then comes the other stuff. but if you have a funky personality - you can kiss my ***.
i think friends should be based on personality - why the hell should it matter if youre best friend is hot? having sexual relationships depend on physical attraction but anything beyond is a 50/50 between physique/personality.
omg the guy above me is annoying - im sick of people going 'well ugly for me is rude blah blah lah' .....you know damn well what she means by ugly. beauty is in the eye of the beholder, true. but still.

Of course it's true. Ugly people have to prove their true worth from the start. No one as ever struggled harder for a career in acting than Kathy Bates but by golly when she won her Oscar no one ever accused her of getting by on her looks or sleeping her way to the top. It isn't fair but sometimes there are compensations. Would Kathy Bates want to trade careers with Marilyn Monroe? Maybe I'll get a chance to ask her some time.

Anyone shallow to believe that is hardly worth setting standards by anyway....so why do you allow yourself to be influenced by them at all?
The media makes physically beautiful people 'better'. They even define what is beautiful. Marilyn Monroe was a size 16 at the peak of her career.....Can you imagine present day catwalks sporting people that size?
Being interested enough in people to feel motivated to help and support will win more 'Beauty points' than any amount of time on diets or the beauty salon.
The most beautiful 'couple' I ever met had been together for 50 years and still teased each other like teenagers......That was beautiful and most of us wont even get close.

It is true to some sense but not entirely. Its a shame but its life. Unless you live in Lower Alabama or Potatoe fields of Idaho there is no escaping this reality. Nobody asked to look the way we do but you either make the best of it and make up for your looks by studying harder or learn to live with prejudices. But to be honest with you I noticed most ugly people think they are beautiful. Its all in what you see. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Just dont try out on American Idol with that belief.

That would definately help. But everyone should try to have a good personality and to be intelligent. Otherwise, you're not interesting, and that's far worse than being ugly.
A sense of humor is probably the best thing a person could have.

You have to define ugly. Ugly is something that you have catagorised. To me ugly is rude, bad personality, and bad taste.
Looks have nothing to do with this.
Maybe the lack of self confidence has a lot to do with this matter.
How may of the high school football squads have actually been successful in life, yet during high school they had a squadron of girls following them.
Self confidence is the first defence.

I feel more sorry for people who are ugly on the inside. However, not everyone judges someone on looks alone. I prefer to get to know the person. It's the beauty on the inside that counts with anyone who has substance anyway.
