Why are the vast majority of serious crimes commited by black people. I know that there are many exception to this, but to me it just seems like the black neighborhoods are always considered violent and unsafe. Why is that?

I don't want to hear name calling or insults towards me. I want serious answers that actually help me understand a little!

Oh and BTW, I go to a predominately black high school, so I know a little about black neighborhoods because I'm around the people that live in them.

Serious answer: I think the truth of it is broader than simply race. I think it's age (1/4 of the black community is under 18), poverty, and institutional racism. As for the issue, I believe that young people embrace violence, not matter the color. Did you see "Bowling for Columbine"? That pretty much explains it, in my opinion. You know who buys most gangster rap? White, suburban teens! What movies, video games, and t.v. shows are most popular with young teens (no matter the race)- violent ones. That's why kids get sent to fight, I think, because at some level, they need to.

The reason why most white kids don't commit serious crimes is because they don't have to add poverty and racism into the mix. When a person can't get a job because of their skin color, you get crime. When a person isn't able to get a job because no one in the family thinks education is important, you get crime.

As for the neighborhood issue, if I put in the phrase "middle class", would you still be afraid? I don't think so. And there are middle class neighborhoods that are predominantly black. So again, I don't think it's about race, even though that's what the eye sees first.

Your ignorance is astounding!

Seamus: You said that to say what? I'm black and have never committed a violent crime or any other type of offense for that matter, nor do condone that. The question asker is saying it seems like black neighborhoods are always considered violent and unsafe. That simply isn't true, STOP GENERALIZING!

and just in case I haven't conveyed this to you already, your own ignorance is astounding as well. Learn to stick to the subject and stop picking out the things you think you're more knowledgeable about........sheesh!

First of all, I'm a black person, and I do not embrace violence at all. Not all black people beat, rob or murder people. Anyone of any race is capable of violence, not just black people. People who embrace violence probably did not have any positive guidance growing up or did not have a respectable/positive person to be their role model. I do not live in a bad neighborhood, ghetto, projects, or whatever you want to call it. How would it make you feel if I asked:

Why do white men kill their wives/girlfriends instead of just breaking up with them?
Why are white students always shooting people at school?

Because I know that those questions are very stupid and any race is capable of committing violent crimes, NOT JUST BLACK PEOPLE!!! There is absolutely no reason to be racist. As long as there are people like you believing negative stereotypes and are being taught by other ignorant, racist people, there will always be racism. You sound very stupid and ignorant.

They are usually considered violent and unsafe because some people are ignorant. I live in a black neighborhood and some people think that my neighborhood is scary. They have no idea how my neighborhood is because they have never been to my neighborhood. If people actually came into our neighborhoods they would discover that it isn't as bad as they think!

I don't understand how people can call this guy ignorant for asking this question. Blacks commit crime disproportionately as compared to whites. You can all hoot and haller and call him racist and say his "ignorance is astounding" but if you check out any crime statistic report on any major city or take a glimpse into the Federal prisons you will see the majority of these offenders are in fact black. Ignorance is pretending the truth isn't the truth because it defies a glass facade of a politically correct ethic system that this country has been brainwashed into thinking exists.

i also live in a black neighborhood. it is very violent and unsafe. I carry a gun every time I go outside because you never know what is going to happen. I do not understand why it has to be this way. When I moved here it was a white neighborhood then it all changed. They are considered unsafe because the blacks make it this way. They need to do something tochange this view of them.
