well the straw won't work, people breath out carbon monoxcide witch they cannot breath. Goldfish are hard. They are the dirtiest firsh of all. I do reccomend if you're mom won't buy you a tank there are 2 things you can do #1 save up you're money. #2 buy an arretor they're cheaper than a tank, you can get a filter/aretor at wal mart for about $8. #3 Absolutely do a 25% water change no less than once a week. These are very dirty fish to begin with, and they are in a tank way too smal, and there are 2 of them, you have to get them clean water with fresh oxygen. Good luck

This is precisely why goldfish shouldn't be given away at carnavals. A rubbermaid tub will work if its clean. You need to get an air pump, tubing an airstone, and a filter. Sponge filter is cheapest. You will need to buy some dechlorinator too. Show mom the responses here. Goldfish need a tank to survive. Those two fish won't make the week in what they are in. They have whole set ups at wal mart. If you don't want to keep the fish or buy a tank, take them to the petstore and give them to them to sell.
Don't blow air in from a straw, you are making it worse. Just aggitate the surface of the water with your clean hand. Change the water everyday, and dechlorinate the water first. If you don't change that situation those fish will die quickly.

My Beta fish lived in a small bowl with no air pumps or nothing for 5 months. I bought a 2 gallon tank from Wal Mart for 15 dollars. It has a light and and air pump. If you do not have enough money then try to find a large clear glass vase to put them in so at least they have enough space.

If you do need a brand new fish tank, go to garage sales that are going on around your area. Someone probably have an used and decent fish tank. I sold two nice fish tanks with their accessories (food, pumps, lights and everything else) back in June during my 1st garage sale for $3 each. You can look up about where the garage sales are going on from local papers. Also you can pull out the yellow book and call & ask Goodwill or Salvation Army stores if they may have something for you. Good Luck.

Hi Princess, you are doing great in the circumstances-try showing your Mom these answers & the link below to appeal to her caring side :) Goldfish need the largest tanks we can provide them with-at least 20 gallons with filters & lids. Best of luck. It might also be worth pointing out to your Mom that properly cared for these intelligent little creatures can easily live for over 20 years & grow over a foot long.

first off, goldfish are not the most sturdiest fish ever, espcially ones from carnivals... oh and blowing into a straw is a good plan... try asking your mom if yyou can help around the house and get some $... you'll get the tank before you know it <<3

Goldfish will go to the surface to get air. They usually don't live that long anyway.
