It's VERY common. Annoying too, right?! Get yourself some Midol. If you're really regular, take it before the headache comes. It would be best to PREVENT that dang headache. Good luck, Sweetie!! :)

The first day of my period is always the worst. And the older I get the worse its been getting. For the past 3-4 months, my cramps and headaches have been so bad, all I could do was lay in bed in the fetal position and I couldn't move. Last month, I went to the hospital because I literally had to call someone to pick me up and I had only been at work for an hour. They ended up just giving me some extra strong drugs and a shot in the butt. Told me to go see my gynecologist. Evey woman is different, some worse than others obviously.

Sometimes you get a headache a few days before or anytime during your period.
These are caused because of the hormonal changes in your body. When the levels of estrogen and progesterone change, women can experience headaches. This is completely normal.
If you are already susceptible to getting headaches, the headaches you receive during this time of the month may be greater.

If you get nausea, sensitivity to lights, flashing lights then your headache may be migraine. If the symptoms become really troubling and bothersome, you should go to your doctor.

A menstrual headache is very common; you can also use it as an indicator your period is starting. There are many symptoms that can occur; you may experience all, some, or none at all, it varies from woman to woman. Tylenol or Motrin (ibuprofen) is ideal at relieving the headache.

Good luck.

I have the same issue, almost to the level of a migraine. The doctor said yes it is normal. Their best advice is to start taking Ibuprofen or Aleve a few days before you know your period is going to start. They also suggest this if you have really bad cramps. They say it is just the way your body handles the hormone shifts at different times of your life.

that happens to a lot of women who have their [or are getting] periods.
for example, i usually have/get a head ache almost every day that i have my period.

it could be because you body is about to loose a lot of blood.
