y intercept occurs where x = 0 (that's the y-axis)
0 + 3y = 60

Okay, here goes. I may not be a top contributer but I'm rarely wrong:
The y-intercept is the point on a line where it crosses the y axis. The y axis is the vertical line.

first things first though; put the equation into slope intercept form.
to do that:
1)remember that when putting and equation into slope intercept form, y always needs its bubble space. so subtract a negative 4x from both sides.

4x+3y=60
-4x -4x
the 4x and the -4x cancel each other out

you end up with:

3y=-4x+60
divide both sides by 3:
3/3y=-4/3x+60/3

now you get:
3 divided by 3 is 1
you leave -4/3 as is
and 60 divided by 3 is 20
so your answer is:
y= -4/3x+20

this is slope -intercept form
and this is slope-intercept formula: y=mx+b
where the b is the y-intercept
and m is the slope
the x is the x that comes after the number the slope is
such as in the equation y= -4/3x+20
see the x?
good. it's just there to tell you the difference between the slope and the y-intercept. The slope is the one with the x after it.

and so, you can conclude that the y-intercept is none other than 20.
so y=20!

another, and much more easier way for me:
1) "Cover" the variable you aren't solving for with you finger or something . In this case, you aren't solving for 4x. So cover that.
Another way would be to just replace the x with a 0.
4 times 0= zero

2) Now, all you can see (or are left with) is 3y=60
Divide both sides by 3 in order to isolate the variable y.

3) Your answer is y=20
So your y-intercept is 20! :-)

Hi,
One way that is typically used to find this information is to put the equation in the slope intercept form. That is this:
y = mx +b (Where b is the y-coordinate of the y-intercept.) So, let's do that:
4x +3y = 60
3y = -4x + 60 (Subtract 4x from both sides of the equation.)
y = -(3/4)x + 20 (Divide all terms by 3.)

Now, comparing this with y = mx +b, we have b = 20. That's the
y-inercept.
Of course, the point is (0, 20) since the intercept is at x = 0.

equation of a line with slope and y intercept is
y = mx + c ------ eqn (1)
where m = slope of the line
c = y - intercept
the given equation
4x + 3y = 60
arranging in the standard form
3y = -4x + 60
dividing by 3
y = (-4/3)x + 60/3
y = (-4/3)x + 20
comparing with eqn (1)
m = -4/3
c = 20
so slope of the given line = -4/3
y - intercept = 20

First of all solve for y.

Thus we have

3y = -4x+60

Divide by 3:
y = (-4/3)x + 20.

The y-intercept is the 20.

when x =0, so
3y = 60
or y = 20 is the y-intercept

the y intercept we would first of all make x=0 then solve the qyestion.

4*0+3y=60.

3y=60 so y =20.

but if we would x_intercept we make y =0 then solve the question.

x/15 + y/20=1

--> y-intercept: (0, 20)
