When I was young my Dad made me believe that the reason our road was resurfaced was because my dad had asked nicely for it to be done. I thought of this the other day when I visted my parents and the road was being re-surfaced again.

My Dad was a welder for 40 years and he would come home with black soot and burns in his shirt. He would walk in the house and set his empty lunch pail by the sink. then he would sit at the kitchen table, and either me or my younger brother would ask what he wanted and most the time it was coffee. So one of us would pour him a cup and get milk out of the fridge and set them on the table. He never said much until he had drank his coffee then he let one of us kids take his shoes off. and like I said he was usually quiet. But one day, He came home and he didnt want anthing, and took he his shoes off . My mom looked at him and asked You sick or something? He shook his head no, and said, I gave some one a ride home and after I let him out he walked into his house, and there is no one else there. then I thought driving up the hill , We work hard for the company , and they pay us very well, but some of us come home to empty houses, but I come home ,and I'm reminded why I go to work , and bring home a paycheck . I have a family that I love very much and Im treated like a King. How could I ask for more than that? I was 12 at the time and I had never heard my Father talk about anything like that before. He wasn't one for talking very much but from that moment on, I never needed for him to tell me or my brother how much he loved us.

As cliche as it sounds, my dad always told me that I should be happy with anything as long as I know that I always did my absolute best. I still think of that a lot.

That's a very touching story redd headd.

My dad used to tell me lots of things. One of them was, "If a job's worth doing, it's worth doing well". And of course he was right!

When I got my first tattoo, my dad merely commented dryly that he should have given me more rows for drawing on myself when I was younger. Bless him xx
