In wild bee colonies, like yellow jackets, the queen is forcing most of the other bees to leave the hive (the drones). She will not allow them to remain, and consume the small stores of honey that wild bees make.

So the bee's are confused, and starving. That's why they are so drawn to meat at this time of year.

Even our domestic honeybees will evict or kill drones. The drones are not ment for long term survival. They are delicate, and do not survive cold temperatures.

It must be getting cooler at night, where you live.

The queen allows a very few bees to stay for the winter. In the spring, they will hatch out new workers for the queen.

they are aware of the changing season, of the fact that the 'hard times of winter' are on the way and that they must store up, or finish what they're supposed to do, very soon.....
