Hey,

so there are plenty of books, such as Gossip Girls, A-list, the It-Girl- novels plus all these kinds of "light literature", for young people. Usually they give such a bad example so that is why I was just wondering why most people think it's totally acceptable? I read these kinds of books myself, but.. Just wondering. : )

I agree that the books set bad examples and I would say that there really isn't anything good that comes out of reading them. The best way to show publisher's that we want great books is by not reading the crap they churn out. Vote with your pocketbook.

There is a huge difference between nicknames and first names - my nickname is 'Pelio'. Do you think that's an acceptable first name? Your argument has to be one of the most ridiculous I've heard in a while. You can insist on calling her Boo, but you shouldn't force her to introduce herself with such a childish name - My five year old cousin named her rabbit Boo, does that not tell you anything? She will be ridiculed by the adult community. If you don't want people's honest opinions, then don't ask on this forum.

It's a free country. People can write and read what they want. If these books set a bad example for young people then the parents need to step in. Parents should always watch what their kids are watching on tv, reading, and seeing on the Internet.

Those books make me sick. I may only be 14, but I am a very deep and serious reader that enjoys Hemingway and Fitzgerald, not "ehmagawd, like, totally".
I admit, I have read all of those books. The A-List and Gossip Girl are the worst, but they are also the most entertaining. It's disgusting how teens are shown having sex with everyone in their school and being praised for it. There are no consequences for their actions. It's sick.
The Clique is just bad. Badly written, annoying characters, and ugly descriptions. I despise these books.

I realize that not very many 9th graders appreciate classical literature, but I do, and I hope to introduce my writing style (I LOVE to write) soon in a book in the near future.

The writing and publishing of books is a business decision not a moral decision. If people did not buy the books and read the books then they would not be published. The same thing goes for movies and television.

You are absolutely right. They do set very bad examples fir girls. They show rude young ladies who are size 2 and trying to lost 20 pounds on the Zone Diet. They show kids with their own credit cards who have clothes and items that are way beyond that of the average 7th grader. A 7th grader does NOT wear Jimmy Cho stilettos to school! They show girls doing horrible things to other kids and getting away with it. They cheat on their schoolwork. And what got me the most was a certain reference in the first book (the only one I read) that bordered on child molestation. I will not post it here, but it was quite serious. I took them away from my niece. I replaced them with Maximum Ride and The Earth My Butt and Other Big Round Things which has won a ton of awards for Young Adult Fiction. Both feature girls who are very good role models for young girls. She now loves them and would never read another one of those pieces of trash clique books. Pax - C

High fashion, name-calling, cheating and sex sell books...that's the point.

Then after we can complain about all the teenagers having screwed up aspirations and immoral behavior.

We are a mixed up bunch.
