Because it brings the whole world together every 4 years in front of the TV screen regardless of age, sex, race, culture, politics and religion.

Football is a unique American sport. Its not based on some pansy English game. Its not some boring version of kickball/keepaway where teams run around for three hours and nobody scores (yawn...)
It is the ultimate team sport. Just one player not performing up to standard can lose a game for a whole team.
Its unapologetically physical and violent. Big guys line up and smash into each other as hard as they can.
It is explosive. A well-designed and well-executed pass play, for example, can change the entire momentum of a game.
It is unpredictable. Triumph can instantly turn into tragic defeat.
It has history. A hundred years of college ball and a pro-game thats faster, stronger...
Every game counts. Theres not 153 games, so no player gets "days off" to sit out a game. You have to win each time out-- no playing averages like in baseball.
It has the marketing and a well-designed hype-machine. No other sport has an event like a Superbowl-- where the best meet the best for a single game to decide a champion.

It's getting out in the fresh air and being able to wear sweaters and jeans - hanging out with friends and cheering on brothers. It's "fun". The BBQing. It's community support.
It's one of those American past time type games. It's the whole package - the strategy, the food, the friends and family, half time show, not necessarily the game itself.
Actually I have never been a football fan - I prefer NASCAR - legal fast cars, the way they sound.....

It is a great game, because it requires strategy to outwit your opponent. It also is a contact sport, so requires physical skills to carry out your plan for success.
I have played football since I was a child. I played in Junior High School as well as High School.
Some of my best times in life were spent out on the Football Field.

For the team thats yours, the men you know and wanna know better! for the solidaity with others on a packed train full of scary millwall fans giving out abuse
Something to do most Saturdays or whichever day they decide to put you on because the local rugby team have to play on the Saturday.

Because it makes 40 year old 300 pound virgins feel better about themselves when their team wins. (I mean US football by this comment).

football is 22 bags of wind kicking a bag of wind about and crying when they have their hair highlights messed up or a blade of grass trips them up.
Rugby is a far superior game LOL
