Democrats do have a tendency to raise taxes, but I believe that W. Bush is the only president to cut taxes during wartime. The current national debt is approaching $9 trillion largely the fault of irresponsible Republican policies. Raising taxes in order to pay for a war, the Katrian disaster, and balance the budget is not an irrational idea, is it?
I am an independent, so I can be unbiased about issues such as taxes and the budget deficit. Both parties are responsible for the budget deficits and the national debt, but the Republican party bears that greater responsibility. The National Debt actually went down while Clinton was president.

The problem with our political system(both democrats and republicans) is that it is now controlled by the power special interest groups who weild great power and control tv and airwave time. Without the approval of these groups no man or woman would have a chance to become president, so in essence they have taken our vote and made it count for almost nothing because they will control who gets seen, who gets bigger funding etc.
Funy u should mention jfk because he was the only president who had the balls to rebel against this system and form his own opinion. I wonder where that got it:(
As far as a candidate, maybe Ron Paul but i just dont see him keeping his own opinion if he gets elected because as i say again there is just too much pressure from special interest groups. Alot of people in the senate didnt want the iraq war but they knew they would be destroyed politically if they went against this awesome power wave that was supporting this war.

Whoever our next president is will be forced to raise taxes because of the fiscal irresponsibility of the Bush administration.
This isn't just my opinion, but the opinion of Bruce Bartlett, author of "Reagonomics," and a former member of the Joint Economic Committee of Congress, who worked in the Reagan White House, and first Bush Treasury Department.
And guess what? He's a republican! And he believes this Bush has bankrupted America and forced future generations to pay for all his arrogant spending.

Darlin' the president doesn't raise or lower taxes. Congress does that. The president may want taxes raised or lowered but Congress has to pass legislation to do that. The president can approve or veto tax legislation, but its the Congress that starts the process.

Why do people insist on LYING about DEMOCRATS?
The shrinking deficit is a lie.The government's accounting is done in a way that would get anybody else indicted. This country is actually 9-13 trillion dollars in debt and much of that debt has been accrued under George W.Bush's presidency.
But let the GOP,the most prolific spenders in our history, keep letting you think the Democrats are fiscally irresponsible. The fact of the matter is that the Democratic party usually gets stuck paying the GOP's bills, and gets the blame for it....

Shrinking deficit? What kind of drugs are you taking the deficit is exploding because of war spending. We need to raise taxes soon to pay our debts. And don't give me that bs about how we're taking in more income tax money because of the Bush tax cuts because it is manipulating the numbers. we have collected actually 200 billion less in income taxes which was made up for by increased FICA taxes. FICA taxes are solely used for programs like Medicare and Social Security.

Big Spending = Big Government
Big Government = Corrupt Government
The train left about an hour ago, sweetie. Its not just the democrats anymore. The only difference between the two parties is what they want to spend money on.

"Democrats want to raise taxes"
How many tax increases have there been since the democrats took control of congress in January?
Before you criticize the spending habits of democrats, ask yourself which party was in control when we went from a surplus to record deficits. I'll give you a hint. It wasn't the democrats.

But our current administration, by being the FIRST government to ever not raise taxes during a WAR, is instead going so deeply into debt that they must want our children to keep less of their money.
If we believe in the war, we should all be willing to pay higher taxes for it. For the rest, I suspect you're exaggerating, but either way, you won't convince me that with the amount we're throwing at the war, the Democrats are the "villains" and the Republicans are the shining angels. We had a surplus when Clinton left office.

Let me guess: you support the war in Iraq right now? You do know that war is...oh...what's the word...um...EXPENSIVE right? How do you expect a country to pay for war without raising taxes? As of now, it's stupid not to raise taxes since the government seems to like spending money so much.
