I think you are right.
Laptops used to be really expensive because they were the only 'mobile' thing able to connect to the internet and also a 'mobile' way of working away from home/ on the move etc.
They used to be expensive as the people who used them were likely to be office workers and porfessionals who could afford to pay the price as they would have been invaluable.
However now with phones that can access the web, wi-fi areas and internet cafes they are quite far nehind so i think this is definately what has led to the drop in price.
And once one company has dropped the price the others have to follow suit or else they will be forced out of the market.
It just shows how cheap they are to rpoduce and how everyone was conned into paying such high amounts when they first came out!!!!

Typical of most equipment and gadgets over the last 50 or 60 years.. As something new is introduced or invented the initial costs are high. The cost of development as well as manufacture need to be recovered.. As more are made production costs per unit are lower and development costs are also being defrayed. This sort of thing has happened over and over again.. The only people who pay top price are those who buy an item in the first couple of years..of introduction... The prudent person will wait a while. For example see how the price of Sat Navs will plummet in the next year / DVD players for £18. and so on ...

A few years ago LCD and other flat screen tv's were thousands of pounds, now they are from a few hundred pounds. That's how it works, first recover cost of development, then the price starts to come down, and down and down. Price of tv's didn't come down because of competition from mobile phones. Laptops have come down because now they are much cheaper to produce.
Market is much larger, components cost less because they make more, more and more components are made very cheaply in China, etc etc. It's got nothing to do with competition from other ways of getting on the internet.

No. But that's a good theory.
Electronic hardware has always decreased in price the longer they've been in the market. Hardware becomes cheaper to build as time passes and new, better, cheaper ways to manufacture them are discovered. If hardware manufacturers want to sell a cheaper piece of hardware to win back market share, they build a new model out of cheaper components and price them accordingly. If they want to target users who only want devices that browse the Internet, they'll build computers with less memory, less graphics capabilities, less data storage space, less reliable heat management. They're obviously not going to succeed much selling a media workhorse with shiny, useless lights and an H2O cooling system to an 80-year-old grandma who receives photographs from her grandchildren in her e-mail.
If hardware manufacturers price their hardware based solely on market demand and market shares, they'll keep generating loss with each unit they sell.

Because most people are realising that the more programs you have the slower the computer, and since the laptop is less then a COMPUTER, more people might not be buying the Laptop. So the shop lower the price.

ACER ASPIRE 3683 INTEL M430 SILVER 379 quid? lol, thats not cheap, its just that cowboys like currys make it look cheap compared to the huge markup on similar spec product. subtract the 25% markup that various out of town stores do on such products and you have a price around 300

you are able to desire to replace the processor with one which has a speedier clock speed, or upload reminiscence, yet neither a type of issues could be very fee-valuable. purely purchase a clean pc. the fee of recent computers is down from what it was.

It's mostly the reduced cost of LCD panels that have moved the price down.
