to use it you would have to change the compresssor the oil and possibly the txv valve because these refrigerants work at different pressures...no home ac units ever used r-12 only r-22 and if your unit has r-22 in it...freon r-22 will still be around for the life of most units already insatlled now...

No, it will not. R134 boils at a different temperature than R-22, and the gas nor the oils can be mixed.
There are no pro's to doing this. You will destroy the system if you attempt to do so.

Most older home a/c units were r-12 Even if you completely replace the refrigerant and oil, so as not to mix the gases, the working pressures are different. Some systems can be converted, but that's not a DIY project. At best, it probably wouldn't work well or be energy efficient. At worst, the compressor or other expensive component might leak or fail and you have to buy another unit anyway. This is definitely a job for professionals. To do the job correctly, you need special equipment and tools.

No do not mix refrigerants. The system is designed for r22. It won't last very long if you try r134a in it.
