I will unplug the computer and other things that could be damaged, should the power go off while I am gone. I will also turn off the air conditioner. I don't do this to be thrifty, but just to be safe, as I said, in the event of a power outage. As for taking the batteries out of clocks etc., that is a bit too much and going a tad too far, in my book.

I don't know about batteries from clocks. But it is very logical. If Thunder hits in the right place, you can come home to find everything ruined.
My mother once put those computer shock guards, protectors all over the house, while she was there. A bad storm came and if she had not, she would have had to replace the stove, frig., computer, and a lot more.
Some like to leave a light, on a timer, on. So if thieves are looking for signs of people on a trip, they will think they are home. But ask a neighbor to keep their eyes open for you too.

I shut off the power strips that I have for my computer, tv, & DVD player. I unplug my countertop appliances, & shut my water off at the main valve, but that's about it. I don't unplug lamps or take batteries out of clocks. Now that doesn't make any sense at all. I wonder what his reasoning is?

I always unplug the computer and tv but I leave a small light burning. I unplug the phone because lightening has run the phone line more than once here already. I have replaced modem and its something you wouldnt think of.

I unplug things, and shut off the water. I leave batteries in things, as there is very little danger from this. Unhook the computer from the telephone line/modem from its line, as well as the TV from the cable/antenna. Anything that lightning could travel on.

Nope, well my tv, but thats only cause I usually kick *trip over* the cord anyways on a normal basis.lol. I turn off my lights off in my room and bathroom and use candles or sunlight. I've gotten use to that since my mom is sensitive to lights. I just don't turn off my tv or computer, cause I sleep with the tv on. Its a habit I've done as kid, now I just can't kick the habit or I can't get to sleep. I also don't like coming into a dark or quiet room. Computer...uh I just for get about alot of times.lol. But most of the time I turn it off.

I turn the computer off and make sure my house is locked securely. I always tell my neighbor I am gone. He thinks he is my big brother. He and his wife check on things for me. I do stop the pare and the mail. That is about all I do. I always find things A-okay when I return.

I know I should, but when I travel I need a pet sitter. I have a man that stays in my house. I know tons of fires start when things are plugged in and unattended. Pug and Marisol, along with the fish, turtles and cats need to see and eat!!
