Its a sears 4.75 HP briggs&Stratton engine. Regular push mower. Its only a year and a half old, and worked fine earlier this summer. Its a fuel related problem I believe. Cleaned air filter, checked spark plug but nothing. It only starts when i prime it several times. It will run off of the primed gas but then dies out a few seconds later. If I prime it 20 times, it runs about 6 seconds. the gas Ive been using all summer has now reached appox20 months old so the first thing I did was empty all the gas out tof the tank and fill with fresh gas. Its like feul is not coming from the tank to the engine. Any help or ideas would really help!

Its a common issue, no matter how old the mower is - dirt. Gasoline isnt clean, even from the pumps. If the mower doesnt have an inline fuel filter , then itll eventually get dirt into the carb. I dont belive in using gas more then a year old - any longer it just goes stale- dump the old gas in your vehicle- itll burn it. I also dont belive in fuel stabilizers- i dont think they do anything to extend fuel life. See if you can locate any debris/dirt in the fuel tank before taking the carb apart and cleaning it. That should fix the problem.

Sure sounds like the carb needs cleaning. Take it off, disassemble, soak it in a good parts cleaner and install a rebuild kit. Make sure the tank is clean and also your gas can.

could be the gas lines ned to be changed or tha carberator is stopped up. take the lines off , blow through them if you hear air it isnt them . also the prime button could be messed up. good luck.
